Webflow’s CMS is the part that stores repeating items: projects, people, articles, locations. Each type is a collection (a list with the same fields, like name, photo, summary). If you polish the homepage first and invent collections later, you redraw the same card 12 times by hand.

Sketch the repeating card once. That sketch is your collection, not a one-off artboard.

Set collections before pixels

  1. List every page that is “the same shape, different content” (team, work, FAQs, locations).
  2. For each, write the fields: title, image, short text, button label.
  3. Build the collection and one template page.
  4. Add 3 real items — not lorem ipsum — so gaps show up.
  5. Then design the homepage using those same cards.

Homepage decoration is last. Lists that marketing will fill are first.

What goes wrong if you skip this

Marketing asks for “one more case study”. Someone duplicates a page, forgets a class, and the new page looks 90% right. You now have two templates. Six months later nobody knows which one is source of truth.

Collections feel slower on day one. They are faster every week after.
